How can a Computer Science degree help?
By RhynO on Jun 08, 2001 07:27 AM
I'm a computer science student. I've heard animators say before that computer degrees are important to be able to learn 3d easily. Nowadays they say that new software eliminate the need for computer science.
I want to know how I can possibly connect what I learned from computer science, to 3D graphics? Re: How can a Computer Science degree help?

From what I understand, computer science can help the most in using things like scripting languages and expressions and with writing custom shaders and plugins and so forth.

Hi,
....well from my POV there are 'programmers' and there are 'artists' I have no in-betweens. Computer science is great for getting a job doing 3d programming, i.e like above scripting, plug-ins etc. There is a BIG demand for people like that. I really dont think that a CS degree will help you as an artist though. But It wont hurt you in your 3d either :) -gav Re: How can a Computer Science degree help?

I'm doing a Computer Science degree at Leeds University. Basically, I don't think it will make you a better artist, generally, although it might help you to understand interaction between games and graphics, ai and graphics, scripting, programming etc.
:)
